Tennessee vs Evansville Score Updates - Game No. 3 in Knoxville Super Regional (2024)

The Tennessee Volunteers and the Evansville Aces are facing off in Game 3 of the Knoxville Super Regional with the winner punching their ticket to Omaha for the College World Series. It would be the third time in four years that Tony Vitello and his squad would be making the trip to Omaha.

The Vols won game one of this series 11 to 6, with the Aces winning game two 10 to 8. Game three's winner takes all, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM EST. We will have all the live updates here on Volunteer Country.

First Inning: Two out Hitting Continues to Score Runs for Evansville (1-1), Moore Starts it hot
Top - Zander Sechrist will get the start for the Vols. Simon Scherry leads off for the Aces in Game 3. A ground ball to the shortstop is unable to be fielded and Scherry reaches first base on the error. Sechrist gets Shallenberger to strike out looking for the first out. Fougerousse steps to the plate next and he strikes out swinging for the second out. C. Hug is the next hitter and he laces a ball toward first base, Blake Burke knocks the ball down but is unable to get an out, extending the inning. Brent Widder steps to the plate now and he hits a single into left field, a play at the plate is close but the Aces base runner is called safe. The play is confirmed under replay (0-1) McGinnis pops out to centerfield for the final out.

Bottom - LHP, Kevin Reed gets the start for Evansville. Christian Moore leads off the Vols with a no-doubt homerun (1-1) Burke hits a would-be single into right field, but it's missed played as Burke legs it into a double. Billy Amick steps in next as he pops out into right field for the first out of the inning. Dreiling pops out to left field for the second out of the inning. H. Ensley pops out to the first baseman for the third and final out.

Second Inning: Aces go quietly in the second, (4-1) Vols Go Deep Twice
Top - B. Hord pops out to right field for the first out of the inning. H. Taubert strikes out swinging, Sechrist's third K of the contest. A ground ball to first bate winds up in an in-field single from T. Rumsey. One pitch later, S. Scherry pops out in the infield for the final out of the top half.

Bottom - K. Tears grounds out to the shortstop for the first out of the inning. D. Curley steps in next and hits a ball completely out of the park for the second run of the day. (2-1) D. Bargo hits a ball off the scoreboard the next at-bat. (3-1) C. Stark earns a walk. C. Moore steps to the plate with one on and one-out. A past ball advances Stark to second base. C. Moore walks on four pitches to put two on with one out for Blake Burke. A pitching change brings N. Smith to the mound for the Aces. Burke hits a ball by the shift for a one-out double that scores one more. (4-1) Billy Amick comes to the plate with runners at second and third and he hits into the shift for the second out but C. Moore scores from third (5-1). Dreiling steps to the plate and he pops out to left to end the inning.

Third Inning: Aces and Vols trade off scoreless halves.
Top - C. Moore makes an incredible play at second base to get Shallenberger out on a ground ball. Fourgerousse strikes out swinging on four pitches for the second out. C. Hug grounds out for the third and final out of the top half.

Bottom - H. Ensley grounded out to shortstop, followed by K. Tears striking out swinging starts the inning off with two quick outs. D. Curley who strikes out swinging to end the inning.

Fourth Inning: Evansville leaves the loaded (9-1), Vols hit three home runs in the fourth.
Top - B. Widder leads off the fourth inning for the Aces and he flies out to centerfield for the first out. McGinnis hits a soft liner into center field for a base hit. A ground ball to third base that should have been a double play ends in an error at second base buy C. Moore. B. Hord lines out to second base for the second out. Sechrist gets hit with a liner off the bat of T. Rumsey and it extends the inning for the Aces. S. Scherry steps to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. Scherry grounds out to second base for the final out of the inning.

Bottom - D. Bargo hits another homer in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead. (6-1) C. Stark hits into a ground ball out at shortstop. C. Moore sees 10 pitches in an at-bat that finishes with a homerun to dead center field to extend the lead. (7-1). Blake Burke hits one into centerfield and the Aces can't put a glove on it, it's a one-out double for Burke. Amick hits the next pitch over the batter's eye in center field for another home run. (9-1). Dreiling fouls out to third base for the second out of the inning. A five pitch walk to H. Ensley brings a pitching change for the Aces. Ensley is thrown out at second base trying to steal for the final out.

Fifth Inning: Aces go 1,2,3 in the top half. (12-1)
Top - Sechrist returns to the mound for the fifth inning and Shallenberger grounds out back to the pitcher for the first out. Fourgerousse flies out to right field for the second out of the inning. C. Hug steps to the plate and strikes out looking for the third and final out of the inning.

Bottom - K. Tears hits a line drive into left field to lead off the bottom half. D. Curley is hit by a pitch put two on with nobody out. Bargo strikes out swinging for the first out of the inning. Cal Stark hits a three-run home run to continue to extend the Vols lead. (12-1) C. Moore grounds out to third base for the second out of the inning. Burke hits a two-out double to continue the inning. B. Amick lines out to end the inning.

Sixth Inning: A scoreless sixth inning from both sides.
Top - B. Widder leads off the sixth with a fly ball out to left field. CJ McGinnis reaches on an infield single. B. Hord strikes out for the second out of the inning followed by a ground out from H. Taubert to end the top-half.

Bottom - Dreiling draws a walk to start the bottom of the sixth. Ensley flies out to right field for the first out of the inning. K. Tears steps to the plate as M. Hansmann comes out of the pen. Tears walks to bring up D. Curley.

Seventh Inning: Vols Hold Aces Scoreless again in the 7th (12-1)
Top - Sechrist goes back to the mound for the seventh inning and T. Rumsey grounds out to second base. That'll do it for Sechrist who pitches 6.1 innings and exits the game in line for the win. Nate Snead gets the call out of the bullpen. Snead strikes out Scherry for the second out of the inning. C. Moore throws a ground ball off Shallenberger's bat to first for the final out of the seventh.

Bottom - Cal Stark will lead things off in the bottom of the seventh. Stark strikes out looking, and C. Moore walks before Blake Burke lines out to left field. Amick reaches first base on an infield hit with two outs. D. Dreiling strikes out to end the inning.

Eighth Inning: Evansville scoreless again in the 8th. (12-1)
Top - N. Snead strikes out Fourgrousse to start the eighth inning. Snead walks C. Hug to bring B. Widder to the plate. A fielder's choice at second base brings the second out of the inning. A pitching change takes Snead out of the contest. D. Loy enters the contest and gets McGinnis to fly out to left field to end the top of the eighth.

Bottom - Ensley grounds out to shortstop for the first out of the inning. K. Tears strikes out swinging. D. Curley flies out to center for the final out of the 8th.

Ninth Inning:
